Advanced Courses

ENRICHMENT
Teachers utilize differentiated teaching strategies to provide enrichment opportunities for their students within the confines of their classroom. Additionally, students who are proficient in reading and do not need to be placed in an intensive reading class have the opportunity to participate in physical education and/or enrichment opportunities which include: business education, health occupations, technology, agriculture, culinary, spanish, art, band, and chorus.
 
ADVANCED MATH
Students in grades 6-8 may be scheduled in advanced math. These students would have demonstrated through standardized testing and academic performance that they would benefit from a more in-depth mathematical course. 

ADVANCED SCIENCE
Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 may be scheduled in advanced science. These students would have demonstrated through standardized testing and academic performance that they would benefit from an enriched science course.   Students enrolled in advanced science are expected to complete a science fair project. The eighth grade advanced science course offering is actually 9th Grade Advanced Physical Science in which students earn a high school science credit while still in middle school. 

ADVANCED SOCIAL STUDIES
Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 may be scheduled in advanced social studies. These students would have demonstrated through standardized testing and academic performance that they would benefit from an enriched social studies course.

HONORS ALGEBRA I
This high school leveled course is offered to 7th and 8th grade students who demonstrate the potential of success illustrated from academic performance, algebraic screening, and standardized test results. 

HONORS GEOMETRY
This high school leveled course is offered to 8th grade students who demonstrate the potential of success illustrated from successful completion of Honors Algebra I, and standardized test results. 

HONORS ENGLISH I
This high school leveled course is offered to 8th grade students who demonstrate the potential of success illustrated from academic performance and standardized test results.

SPANISH 1
This high school course is offered to 8th grade students who demonstrate the potential of success and are interested in a foreign language.

GIFTED STUDIES
Students that qualify (according to psychological testing and documentation of need) for the gifted program are served through advanced science in grade 6, civics in grade 7, and in 9th Grade Advanced Physical Science in grade 8.
